In the first round of speeches, I wanted to establish my sense of confidence and interest in politics. While my first speech went well (current event), the topic was somewhat too dense, and could have been better in the end. I chose to speak about the Trump administration’s Sarin gas bombing in Syria, and it was hard to parse down to only three minutes.
The second speech was an oral interpretation of Hunter S. Thompson’s “wave” monologue from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This speech went much better, and I felt I was able to tap into the place Thompson was coming from when he wrote the piece in some aspects.
For future speeches I intended to focus on having a more extemporaneous style in my speaking, and also holding better eye contact throughout.
